Breast augmentation is a procedure in which a woman's breast profile is enhanced in order to increase self confidence and one's overall appearance. Breast augmentation is sometimes combined with other plastic surgery procedures, such as tummy tuck and liposuction, in order to achieve a fully body makeover for the patient. This procedure is performed by a plastic surgeon in an onsite surgical facility. The surgeon first makes an incision near the patient's breast and then inserts the implant, either saline or silicone, around the breast's pectoral muscles in one of three positions: behind the muscle, within the muscle or in front the muscle. The placement of the implant depends on the patient's preference, initial bustline and desired implant size. If considering plastic surgery it is best to consult a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in order to assess the risks, costs, side effects and benefits of breast augmentation.
