Cosmetic Surgery Procedures
Liposuction is a procedure that helps patients obtain a slimmer, more defined body line. During this procedure, a surgeon makes incisions in the skin, inserts a long narrow tube called a cannula and suctions out fat from fatty areas on the body. The size of the incisions depends upon how much fat the patient wants removed, and how large is the area from which the fat is being removed. Liposuction is usually performed on an outpatient basis and can be completed in a surgeon's on-site surgical facility or in a hospital. One of the more popular forms of liposuction is tumescent liposuction, during which a surgeon first injects a solution of saline, anesthetic and blood constricting drugs into the treated area in order to increase tissue firmness. The best candidates for liposuction are patients who are in good health but have localized fatty areas that they are unable to get rid of through diet and exercise alone.
